As a gay male artist, I’d been wanting to rephotograph my appreciation of the male body for a few decades as my past attempts were cliché ridden. Three years ago, I photographed my first model in the low lighting of my basement, pushing the limits of my point-and-shoot digital camera. Seeing my results I knew this approach had brought male erotica to an unusual artistic level. The high grain black and white look I chose allowed for a dramatic and timeless feel.
The editing process was a profound experience. Certain images triggered intense memories of past traumatic sexual experiences. I was presented with the opportunity to confront my youthful fears and confusions anew. I knew the shoots had to continue to further explore the emotional and psychological depths that had been triggered.
