Title: Anansinisim
Subtitle: Through His Eye's I See
Blurb/Shorttext:
This photo book is a vibrant celebration of lived experiences, both personal and communal. Through the use of vivid and muted colors, i explore precolonial culture and decolonizing practices within contemporary society. My work delves into the essence of Black identity, advocates for women, and poses empowering questions to society.
At the heart of my art are intricate patterns I call Anansinisim, inspired by the complexity and symbolism of spider webs. By blending these visual design networks in a rhythmic manner and incorporating Adinkra symbols from Ghanaian history, I create designs that are both original and traditional, painting them onto the body. My work is greatly influenced by African traditional masks and their creators, echoing the collective wisdom of my ancestors—wisdom that risks being forgotten in today's culture. Through this body of work, I aim to revive this ancestral knowledge and celebrate its lasting importance.
