Title: you-I-you

Subtitle: instant film self portrait extravaganza

An image of oneself. An image of the face: focused on the moment, centered on the eyes - on the sensory organ that visualizes the self to the self. The photo captures the view of oneself. A moment without before and after. Does this image have a character of truthfulness? Is it authentic? Can it say something about the person, convey something essential about them? The selfie, the contemporary form of the self-portrait, focuses on the self. But how, in what form? Can it capture how I feel about myself? What exactly does that mean? Does it do justice to the difference between ego and self? Is it capable of expressing the capacity for reflection that only the self possesses? Can it capture the structured view of oneself? Pictures of oneself, as shown here, have this dimension. They don't say everything, but they do say something significant about the person. In my project, these snapshots, the moment in which they are taken, are determined by a variety of factors. The state of mind and the mood of the person taking them, the location and the surroundings. And yet these aspects combine to form a self-contained statement.
