YOU GAVE ME YOUR MUD AND I MADE IT INTO GOLD (Ch. Baudelaire).
"Everything is Connected" brings together three series created between 2018 - 2023: Renaissance, A-fil-iations, and Girl with an Amber Earring.
The author explores the notion of memory, the feeling of belonging, the place she comes from, and the lands her feet have trodden, for they all connect her to the world.
Created in the present time, these photos also resonate in the Dutch seventeenth century.
Angèle questions images constructed from the aesthetic discourse in the art of the Golden Age, where Blacks are dehumanized, by responding with images of our time that exalt and celebrate diversity, equality, and inclusion. By so doing, she captures a contemporary vision of the black woman that shows pride and strength and is aesthetic, idealistic, realistic, and social.
The thread in A-fil-iations leads the gaze and connects all three series across time and space to open into new imaginaries and fields of reflection.
The book contains 136 color and black/white photographs that connect us with the world across time and space and open into new imaginaries and fields of reflection.
