In his artworks Costa explores people’s emotional and psychological states, often depicting them through the interactions of a figure with different spaces, objects and fashion items. He works in an expressionistic Austrian-German manner, revealing the traditions of Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka, Ferdinand Hodler, Emil Nolde. Usually works with oils and watercolors. The basic principles he uses when creating paintings are those of Baroque, Renaissance, and interior design. Architecture plays a primary role because it is based on stone and the golden ratio. He strives to incorporate elements of Gothic and Baroque architecture into the everyday life of his characters through bags and accessories that carry the DNA of the architectural heritage. He wants to show that in spite of the change of trends and eras, the fundamental things are unshakable and unchanging. He uses sexuality and nudity as a tool to show vulnerability, insecurity, and at the same time passion and thirst for life, which are eternally inseparable. His characters are Orlando from the Virginia Woolf novel of the same name who are knowing the modern world, but remembering the experience of past centuries.

The artist believes that the description of the inner essence of his characters is best matched by this writer's quote from another novel, “A Room of One's Own”: “The beauty of the world which is so soon to perish, has two edges, one of laughter, one of anguish, cutting the heart asunder.” The passions of his characters are expressed through architecture and compositional objects.
