Facing Future by Mimo Khair
By (author): Mimo Khair
Title: Facing Future
Subtitle: Portraits of resilient children
Blurb/Shorttext:
Mimo Khair has been traveling into and covering conflict zones around the planet with her camera since 2009. After several commissioned projects that were facilitated by UNICEF and the United Nations as well as humanitarian NGOs, and a paused book project ‘By Art We Live’ with author and illustrator Mark Siegel, Mimo could not give up tracing this issue with images and words. Driven by empathy and an urgent need to bring awareness to the continuing dire condition of millions of children on our planet today, a new book has appeared. While Mimo’s first published book SOLO by Snap Collective in 2022 covered architecture and form, FACING FUTURE focuses intimately on the children from Syrian refugees in Lebanon, demobilized child soldiers and street children of Congo, street children of India, poor and street children of Cambodia and the ethnic Uyghur minority children of Xinjiang. One can feel the humanity, the hope and the resilience in the faces of these children despite the challenging situations they all have to endure as a result of choices that were made on their behalf. This book hopes to bring awareness to the state of children in our world today and invites the search for solutions and real steps towards a better future than the one we are all facing.
