Dear Mothers by Sara McKinnon

Title: Dear Mothers
Subtitle: Honouring an alternate family
Blurb/Shorttext:
This book took a lot longer than anticipated to unravel. It’s an attempt to hold space, capture, honour and tell stories that run parallel to some of my own experiences raising my boys. An immense effort of time and love from all undertaken with apprehension and humility. A time to share threads that I discovered between these stoic extraordinary mothers of strength and resilience. To reflect back on their journeys in the hope that together we may be able to help women learning from each other. Sometimes overwhelmed, unseen or alone. Dear Mothers is a photobook with emotive portraits of single mothers, to honour the innate strength and the superpower it takes to raise a child either alone, or as the predominant carer. How that can feel and what a support system can look like. It's a tangible offering with a humble intention to help mothers – single or otherwise. When memory blurs and time transports us further, a photograph takes you back to a particular moment. As a portrait photographer I hope to encourage and support those who don’t usually like to be seen and offer something with meaning. Rivers never run straight, natural forces and processes shape our pathways, hopefully our sharing and caring helps.
