Title: In between

Subtitle: Through the eyes of a woman of two colors : this is a quest for meaning and belonging amidst diverse heritages and influences in a world defined by labels and boxes.

Blurb/Shorttext:

Born in Guadeloupe to a Franco-German father and a Cameroonian mother, my childhood was an interplay of rhythmic influences and the vibrant hues of tropical life, interwoven with the enduring presence of my mother's African heritage. From both, islands and mountains, I spent my formative years in the countryside before being drawn to São Paulo, a dynamic metropolis that, much like my beloved Guadeloupe, became a new home where familiar traditions thrived under altered identities.

In the fabric of my cultural influences, the notions of heritage, history, and colonization swiftly emerged. Initially captivated by the architectural imprints of colonialism, I pursued studies across diverse landscapes—from France to Argentina, Brazil to Japan—fueling my thirst for exploration and discovery.

Photography swiftly emerged as my chosen medium, a visual testament to my quest to experience and portray the architectural remnants of bygone eras in colonized territories, grappling with questions of heritage and evolving use.

I am Naomi Chillet, also known as Nãoko, a moniker reflective of my diverse heritages. As an architect, designer, and multimedia artist, I am devoted to probing the complexities of cultural and ethnic amalgamation, delving into its profound influence on our societal fabric. Through my photography, writings, and unique/temporary architectural creations, I seek to engage diverse communities in dialogue about the perpetuation of heritage.
